Urban Bokashi Living

Bokashi is a Japanese word for 'Fermented Organic Matter'

Bokashi composting is an anaerobic fermentation process that relies on inoculated bran to ferment kitchen food waste including meat and dairy.

In the Summer of 2022 I was diving deep into all things permaculture trying to figure out ways I could apply certain practices in an urban setting in my own house, own backyard

and how to practice it even in Winter.

I then discovered Bokashi.. which isn't new But new to me.

The technique first became popular in Japan in the 1980s, when Dr. Teruo Higa began promoting his combination of effective microorganisms for bokashi, but the process of fermenting organic waste for composting has been practiced across Asia for centuries

As a gardener, I was also interested in making my own nutrient rich soil to incorporate into  my own gardens and that of my clients.

Since learning about this way of composting I have been documenting my bokashi journey.

I hope you will join me and be inspired to live a more eco-friendly, self sufficient way of life while giving nutrient rich Goodness back to the Soil.
